Popular Miltonian Michela Coffaro is getting a second home.
Unlike most second homes, Michela’s Place is for people with behavioral health and related medical issues to receive care in a community-based setting.
The house, located on Atlantic Avenue in Milton, is a newly renovated, eight-bedroom home owned and operated by Fellowship Health Resources, a nonprofit behavioral health care organization with services available in seven states. The house was named after Coffaro, a board member and career psychologist who spent her career working as a mental health practitioner for various charities and nursing homes.
A virtual open house of Michela’s Place was held March 18 to show off the living quarters. To cut the ribbon, those taking part in the open house were given a piece of ribbon and scissors with which to formally open the home.
The house includes space for individual and group therapy, education, treatment planning, transportation and medical assistance. Each resident has their own bed and closet space, and there is a community kitchen.
Fellowship Health Resources CEO Debra Paul said, “We hope it will be a place where individuals can improve their quality of life for years and years to come. We are excited to name this program in Michela's honor in recognition of her leadership. While serving as a board member for over 10 years, Dr. Coffaro has continually demonstrated her commitment, compassion, and devotion to FHR's mission,” Paul said. “She is a tireless advocate in ensuring that those in our programs receive high-quality, personalized care that enables each individual to reach their goals and full potential."
Katrina Ringgold, FHR Delaware regional director, said, "FHR's team has worked together to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those at Michela's Place. We are eager to officially open this program, which will enable individuals to focus on their goals in an environment that promotes autonomy, hope, and recovery."
Coffaro, a Milton resident since 2005, a fixture about town in numerous civic groups and a member of the town’s sustainability committee, was thrilled that the home was named for her.
“I’m honored,” she said. “These people are so dedicated to changing lives.”
