A friendly canal chat in Lewes in 1937

April 6, 2021

Bill Heronemus of Lewes sent along this old photo recently. He noted: “I believe it may have C.H. Ellis and Don Daisy chatting to each other while in their boats just east and south of the drawbridge. The date in ink (pre-ball-pen days) was 1937.  Not too long after the rum runner days.”

This was not long after Lewes-Rehoboth Canal connected Delaware Bay and Rehoboth Bay, and before boat construction shifted largely from wood to fiberglass.
