Devil’s Party Press receives state association awards

April 17, 2021

Devil’s Party Press recently received three awards in the Delaware Press Association’s 2021 communication competition.

DPP Co-publisher David Yurkovich also was recognized by the Delaware Press Association for best single story. A summary of the awards follows:

Best video for web/PR video: First place: “Exhumed: Thirteen Tales too Terrifying to Stay Dead” book trailer, designed and edited by David Yurkovich.

Best short story: First place: “The Halloween Hound,” by Yurkovich.

Best short story collection: Third place: “Exhumed,” produced and edited by Yurkovich. “Epic: Volume 3,” part of a series of not-for-profit books being produced and edited by Dianne Pearce and featuring work by University of Maryland Eastern Shore students, received an honorable mention.

“The Halloween Hound” was published in the fall 2020 issue of the literary and arts magazine Next Page Ink produced by nextpageinkmag.com. Editor William Eichler said, “Yurkovich’s story caught our attention immediately with its spot-on portrayal of the wonder, mystery, and fear of the Halloween season. His storytelling made us long for nights of candy, creepy costumes, and scary movies. We were honored to include it in our third issue, and to showcase a fantastic writer from our home in Delaware.”

In addition to his DPP work, Yurkovich, a former Delaware Division of the Arts grant recipient, publishes original serialized fiction at yurkoverse.com.

“Exhumed” was the debut publication of DPP's horror imprint, Gravelight Press.
