The Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame Induction and Overfalls Foundation Opening Ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, May 21, outdoors at the Lightship Overfalls in Lewes at 219 Pilottown Road. Rain date is 4 p.m., Saturday, May 22.
Each inductee or a representative has been invited to speak about his or her career as part of the induction ceremony.
Members of the public are invited to attend at no cost and asked to RSVP to Denise Seliskar at seliskar@udel.edu. There will be 150 folding chairs positioned for safe social distancing. Attendance is limited. Dress is informal with jackets for men. COVID-19 precautions will be enforced, including appropriate masking and contact tracing.
The Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame honors exceptional individuals who have contributed uniquely and generously with their skill, energy, heart, and time in building Delaware’s maritime heritage.
The 2021 Inductees are: Carolyn H. Benko, educator and maritime tour organizer for the Lewes Historical Society; James M. Falk, leader and visionary of the University of Delaware’s Sea Grant Program; Lisa B. Himber, Delaware River maritime business promoter; Leland C. Jennings, Fort Delaware and Fort Miles historian; and Michael J. Morgan, Delaware maritime history author and teacher.
