Looking to continue to support local community groups, First State Skate Supply has started selling Autism Delaware-themed raffle tickets, T-shirt and stickers.

Shop co-owner Joe Moore said the business helped a local branch Boys & Girls Club last year. This year, he continued, they decided to do something a little different, but still help a local organization.

James West, First State Skate Supply co-owner, said he was inspired to help Autism Delaware because his aunt is a special education teacher in Maryland.

Brett Gershman, employment support professional for Autism Delaware’s POW&R program, said he was happy the First State Skate team was lending a hand for an important cause. The hope is to be able to have a spin-off program, he said.

In addition to raising money, the First State Skate crew will have a walk team for Autism Delaware’s annual Walk for Autism Event at Cape Henlopen State Park in October.

West said raffle tickets for custom boards are on sale at one for $1 or five for $3. They will be sold up to the date of the walk, and there’s no limit on how many can be purchased, he said.

West said T-shirts are $25, stickers are $5 and special-order hoodies are available for $50.

The First State Skate Supply truck does set up shop some days at the Epworth United Methodist Church skate park off Holland Glade Road outside Rehoboth, but the shop’s most regular location is in the parking lot off Route 1 between Big Chill Surf Cantina and the Taco Reho food truck, 19406 Coastal Highway.
