Lindsay D’Ambrogi
A rising sophomore at Cape, Lindsay was right in the middle of a powerful freshman class that played field hockey and lacrosse. While some played one or the other, Lindsay played both. She was a varsity player on state championship teams in both sports, and when the game ramps up in speed, skill and strength, Lindsay is right there with it. Lindsay and Lulu Rishko are going to Baltimore this weekend to play in the Under Armour Lacrosse games. Both girls made the Philadelphia team during tryouts. Coach Lindsey Underwood said, “Lindsay is one of those players who is always working hard and never stops. She is extremely coachable and is always trying new things to improve her game.” Note: Molly Mendez will be in the games representing the Washington, D.C. team.
Ian Hayes
A 16-year-old three-sports-in-one-season athlete from Woodbridge High School, Ian travelled to the beach last weekend and raced back-to-back 5K races. His family is friends with the Vanderwendes and they all show up happy runners and watchers. Ian ran 18:40 at the Dam Mill 5K in Millsboro July 24, which was good for sixth overall and second in his age group. He came back the next day and ran to a time of 18:39 in the Harry K Foundation 5K at the Greene Turtle in Lewes for fourth overall and first in his 14-18 age group. Ian runs cross country, plays soccer and kicks on the football team at Woodbridge.
Justin Krebs
Justin has run and won races at the beach years before he and his running girlfriend/wife had two children and owned a tandem racing stroller. Justin, 47, hadn’t raced in two years, although he has continued to put in mileage. He entered the Harry K Foundation 5K July 25 and ran 16:21, good for second place overall and first in the masters division. At 42, Justin ran the 2016 York Half Marathon in 2:40:48. Justin is a member of the F and M Track Club. His personal bests are 15:01 for the 5K, 31:24 for the 10K and 51:23 for the 10-miler. Justin and his wife Christine were winners of the 2014 Breast Fest 5K in Dewey just two months after they were married, with Justin running 16:07 and Christine running 20:02. Both Justin and Christine help coach cross country at York Suburban High School.
Doug Mock
A former Salisbury University runner who now lives in Ellicott City, Md., the 54-year-old won the Dam Mill 5K in a time of 16:59. “I’m happy to break 17 if only by a second,” Mock said. “Next year I’ll be 55 and I’ll try to stay relevant. I don’t expect to return to my days of running 5Ks in the mid 14s.” Doug recently placed ninth in the Salisbury Marathon with a time of 2:49. Doug is considered one of the best distance runners in Salisbury University history. “I still see coach Don Cathcart, my coach at Salisbury, and we still talk running.”
Dylan Smiley
Dylan Smiley, 23, is a cat-quick road runner – “meep meep” – he goes quickly to the front and dares the field to go with him. At the Harry K Foundation 5K July 25, Dylan led the race post to paddock, running sub-five minute miles and recording a time of 15:25. “I’m not in peak racing shape. I'd say I’m about halfway there,” Dylan said before his race. Dylan is originally from West Chester, Pa. Dylan ran 1:09:14 in the Seashore Strider Half Marathon in October to win that race. Dylan won the Gary P Lister 10-Miler in 2019 in 51:40.4. Dylan’s college personal record for the 5K is 15:14. His 10K best is 32 minutes. There is no telling how fast Dylan can run. He is so fast, but looks like he can go faster.
