September 3, 2021

The 12th annual Sun Festival 5K, Biathlon and 1-Mile Walk was staged on the Rehoboth Boardwalk Aug. 29 under a threatening weather forecast that never broke bad.

There were 61 5K runners and 20 biathletes. Enos Benbow, 39, the Georgetown Jamaican with the lilting voice and loping stride, was the overall winner in 21:11. He was followed closely by 13-year-old Aaron Tikiob, who ironically lost time because he kept looking at his watch.

“This is only the third race I’ve run in a year,” Benbow said. “My job is driving a truck and I don’t have time to train.”

Elizabeth Tretter, 44, was overall women’s winner in 22:34, followed by Alexa Dougherty, 16, in 23:22.

Michael Reimer, 50, was the male masters winner in 21:29. Kim Geyer, 53, the policewoman who pogos at the end of races, was the female masters winner in 24:10.

Trevor Donley, 12, of Silver Spring, Md., a student at Sidwell Friends, won the biathlon in 41:19. Trevor was followed closely by male masters winner Jon Tower, 48, in 41:26.

Margaret Colvin, 60, was the overall women’s winner in the biathlon with a time of 43:53.

Lynn Forsythe won the women’s masters in 53:44.
