RBFS to screen Metropolitan Opera ‘Fire Shut Up in My Bones’
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is proud to present the Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD broadcast of Terence Blanchard’s “Fire Shut Up in My Bones” Monday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. (sold out), Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. Note that screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater and will be shown as a recorded presentation after being filmed live.
Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Grammy Award–winning jazz musician and composer Terence Blanchard’s adaptation of Charles M. Blow’s moving memoir. Featuring a libretto by filmmaker Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou and Harriet), the opera tells a poignant and profound story about a young man’s journey to overcome a life of trauma and hardship.
James Robinson and Camille A. Brown - two of the creators of the Met’s sensational recent production of Porgy and Bess - co-direct this new staging. Brown, who is also the production’s choreographer, becomes the first Black director to create a mainstage Met production. Baritone Will Liverman, one of opera’s most exciting young artists, stars as Charles, alongside sopranos Angel Blue as Destiny/Loneliness/Greta and Latonia Moore as Billie. [Sung in English. Run time approximately 3 hours, 15 minutes with two intermissions]
In addition to the opera performance, the Live in HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings.
Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $25 for adults; $22 for RBFS members, Met members, and seniors (65+); $15 for students (with ID) and children (12 and under).
