Agena Ann Atkinson, resilient spirit
Agena Ann Atkinson, 56, of Millsboro passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at home in the care of her husband James. She was born Feb. 3, 1966, in Elizabeth City, N.C., to Charles Ottie and Madeline Shockley Mumford. Agena also lived in Grandy, N.C., for five years before moving to Millsboro at age 12. Agena married James Atkinson May 21, 1994. She was the assistant store manager of Walgreens Pharmacy and worked at Happy Harry’s. She loved the wild horses at Assateague Island and all wildlife, especially bird watching, and enjoyed cooking for others. As a devoted wife and loving family member, Agena will always be remembered for her resilient spirit and good nature.
In addition to her husband James, she is survived by a sister, Debbie Hollowell (Whit) of Charlottesville, Va.; four brothers: Ken Mumford, Aaron Mumford (Denise) of Fredericksburg, Va., Bruce Mumford (Robin) of Fredericksburg, and Chuck Mumford (Beth) of Henrico, Va. There are three nieces: Jess Mumford, Rusanna Hollowell and Everette Mumford; one nephew, C.J. Mumford; and numerous cousins. She was preceded by her parents; her in-laws, Jim and Helen Atkinson; and a nephew, Alex Hollowell.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. Friends may come one hour prior, from 12 until 1 p.m. for visiting with family or to pay respects before the memorial service. During the service, everyone is encouraged to share their favorite stories and memories of Agena. Written stories may be shared as well.
