Howard S. Abbott Jr., great sense of humor

Howard S. Abbott Jr., 90, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, surrounded by family.

Howard was born Jan. 20, 1932, graduated from Georgetown High School in 1949, attended Goldey-Beacom College, and served in the U.S Army during the Korean War.  He spent most of his career working in Washington, D.C., as a stockbroker.  Howard was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, and he loved to entertain people, sometimes with his juggling.  

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Kathleen Amelia Morris Abbott; parents, Howard S. and Margaret (Jarvis) Abbott Sr.; and brother, Andrew Abbott.

​Howard is survived by his daughter, Susan Abbott of Arlington, Va.; son, Brett Abbott of Spartanburg, S.C.; brothers, J. Timothy Abbott (Myrna) of Georgetown, and J. Dean Abbott (Jeremi) of Milton and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sister-in-law, Eleanor Jamison of Seaford, sister-in-law, Candy Abbott of Georgetown; nieces and nephews, Dana Painter (John), Troy Abbott, Lora Tittiger (Frank), Mark Abbott (Melissa) and Kim Bullock (Wyatt); nephews-in-law, Upshur Parks (Donna) and Jeff Parks (Betsy), both of Parksley, Va; and many grand-nieces and -nephews.  

A special thank you to Sandy Wilson and her staff for the excellent care provided during his illness, as well as the staff of Aveanna Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Aug. 12, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
