Myra Lee McCormick, talented homemaker
Myra Lee McCormick passed away quietly Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, at her home in Millsboro after a battle with cancer. Myra was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of the late Florence and Lester Layne.
Myra was a devoted and loving wife to Patrick for 66 years. They were high school sweethearts, graduating in 1956 from Libby High School in Toledo. They were married Aug. 12, 1956.
They lived in many cities throughout Ohio, as well as Wilmington and Lewes, Grosse Pointe, Mich., Pittsburgh and West Chester, Pa., as a result of Patrick’s employment in the railroad business. She was a lucky one to be a homemaker but also worked in various capacities over the years in retail and bookkeeping.
A passion throughout Myra’s life was creating a welcoming home. They were beautifully decorated in a loving style and her gardens the same. Many can attest to her exceptional cooking. She had an extensive cookbook collection. She was a member of many gourmet groups throughout her life, including one she started in Grosse Pointe. Myra was a gifted seamstress, sewing children's clothing, stylish outfits, home decorating enhancements, and incredible Halloween costumes. For many years she enjoyed golf and traveling, and completed her bucket list!
Myra loved gardening and flower arranging, entertaining in the Martha Stewart style, with amazing tablescapes. She was a member of Sussex Gardeners Club. She enjoyed creating beautiful gardens in every home, some were even on tours.
She was a member of Conley’s United Methodist Church. Her loving mission for years was organizing and cooking funeral dinners for the church.
In addition to her parents, Myra was preceded in death by her sister Doris. She is survived by her husband, Patrick; her daughter, Audrey Bruce; her son, Mark McCormick (Carol); her grandchildren: Alex, Meredith, Kyle and Preston; her great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Isabella, Henry, Logan and Brooke; her sister, Joan Haeberlein (Lee); her brother, Phillip Layne (Linda); and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes. The family will receive guests from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. A luncheon after the service will be held at the church.
Final care has been entrusted to the care of Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, DE 19958.
