Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 opened up its expansive back yard and pavilion Sept. 17, to host its annual fall pig roast and a Delaware Cornhole Tournament. Attendees took full advantage of the beautiful end-of-summer weather.
There were two categories of play, a social division with eight teams and a competitive division with 11.
Social division winners were Bryan Morgan and Mike Poulis. Competitive division winners were former ACL Pro Rudy Thomas Jr., a Milford Elks member, and Brian Knauer Sr. Each team had to play four games of round robin before winning their respective double-elimination brackets.
Established in 2014, Delaware Cornhole is the state’s first competitive cornhole organization. Organizers take pride in providing players a great way of engaging in an exciting activity for all skill levels while maintaining a fun atmosphere. For more, go to decornhole.com.
The local branch is headed by James Brooks and Stan Mlynarski, both Cape Henlopen Elks members. In all, there were more than a dozen additional Elks who participated in the tournament, including Cape Henlopen's Esquire Mary DiGennaro.
The Elks kitchen provided roast pork, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, macaroni salad, hot dogs, snacks and desserts. The band Teenage Satellites entertained the crowd.
