Acclaimed organist to perform Oct. 21 at St. Peter’s in Lewes

October 15, 2022

A prize-winning musician, who just six years ago was named one of this country’s best young organists, will perform at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21.

Caroline Robinson, organist and church musician at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, Ga., will play a selection of classical and contemporary compositions in a free concert offered by the St. Cecilia Music Guild, an outreach program of St. Peter’s. The church is located at Second and Market streets in downtown Lewes.

Robinson has a doctorate in music arts and a master of music in organ performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, N.Y. She has been a prize winner at several distinguished organ competitions since 2016, when she was chosen as one of the “20 under 30” most promising organists in the United States by Diapason magazine.

Robinson has been a solo recitalist in many venues across the country, including St. Thomas Episcopal Church and St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, both in New York City; Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge, Mass.; and St. James in the City Episcopal Church in Los Angeles. She has also performed in England, France and Germany.
In Atlanta, Robinson is associate choirmaster at St. Philip’s Cathedral and leads its Royal School of Church Music-based chorister program, whose goal is to uplift the spiritual life through high-quality choral music.

The program at St. Peter’s will feature both classical and contemporary compositions, including the “Toccata in E Major” by J.S. Bach (1685-1750), and the “Toccata” by Anne Wilson (b. 1954); “I Love Thee, My Lord” and “There is a Happy Land” by George Shearing (1919-2011); and “Jupiter” from “The Planets,” composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934) and arranged by Jonathan Scott, a contemporary pianist and organist widely known for his arrangements.

“The St. Cecilia Music Guild relies solely on the generosity of its donors and concert patrons. We are most grateful for their continued support, which allows us to offer, at no charge, concerts by musicians of such high caliber,” said Joanne Ward, a member of the standing committee.
