Lefty’s Alley & Eats hosts Strike Out Parkinson’s fundraiser

November 18, 2022

Members of the Parkinson's Education and Support Group of Sussex County, their families, friends, neighbors and business supporters gathered Nov. 4 at Lefty's Alley & Eats in Lewes for the Strike Out Parkinson's fundraiser.

Group members and their supporters bowled, bid on items at a silent auction and enjoyed Lefty’s delicious eats. The proceeds of $14,000 will be used to pay the costs of specialized exercise classes taught at Rise Fitness + Adventure and other Sussex County facilities, as well as educational seminars.

A special thank you goes to Lefty's Alley & Eats owners D.J. Hill and Chad Moore, and Lefty’s staff for hosting and assisting throughout the day. Lefty’s staff set up the alleys, delivered bowling shoes, helped set up for the silent auction and served up great food for the event.

The group thanks the following businesses that made major contributions for the fundraiser: Abbott Medical, Aquacare/Excellens Physical Therapy, Community Bank/Community Matters, George Sherman Corporation, Griswold Home Care, Irish Eyes, Jack Lingo Realtor, The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices PenFed Realty, Lewes Building Company, Raymond F. Book & Associates, and Tidemark Federal Credit Union.

Thanks to the many businesses that contributed baskets, gift cards and other items for the silent auction. These include: Bath & Body Works, Blooming Boutique, Capriotti’s Long Neck, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Fresh Market, Grotto Pizza, Harry K Jewelers, La Dolce Vita Long Neck, The LifeMed Institute, Michy’s Relaxed Dining, The Nifty Pickle, Ocean Grill Long Neck, RISE Fitness + Adventure, SoDel Concepts, Starboard Dewey Beach, The Dental Group Lewes, and Sussex Family YMCA.

Thanks go to Parkinson’s group members who contributed items for the silent auction and made generous cash donations. In particular, two members collected large donations in unique ways. Nancy Olson used her 50th wedding anniversary party to collect $1,345 in cash donations. Richard Craig collected over $800 by asking his neighbors in the Independence community to contribute.

The Parkinson's Education and Support Group of Sussex County provides people with Parkinson's and their caregivers with knowledge and tools to help contend with the disease. At monthly support group meetings, guest speakers address therapy, exercise and Parkinson’s medications to help maintain their quality of life. The group meets from 2 to 3:30 p.m., the first Monday of the month at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior on Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach. For more information, consider attending one of the group's monthly meetings, and contact Patricia Slygh at pcslygh@comcast.net or 410-322-3000.
