The Peninsula Gallery’s annual Small Jewels show, featuring small works priced for the gift-giving season, will begin Saturday, Nov. 26, with an opening reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Some of the artists in the show will be in attendance, allowing guests the opportunity to learn more about the pieces directly from their creators.
Clients can shop for the holiday season and fall in love with artworks that all cost $500 or less. Unlike other exhibitions, clients can take away the piece they buy, ensuring the work can be gifted anytime throughout December.
Small Jewels has been a staple in Peninsula Gallery’s exhibition schedule for 19 years. This year, the artists featured in Small Jewels have been juried by Peninsula’s curatorial team, resulting in a coherent collection of more than 80 original works from 17 individual artists.
The lineup includes local and regional participants, and a mixture of resident and guest artists. The show features five pieces each from Al Barker, Kristin Blanck, Anne Buck, Sara Cameli, Rosemary Connelly, Barbara Efchak, Carol Fastuca, Yvonne Frankis, Virgil Holmes, Doris Ingram, Laura McGowan, Joe Milligan, Damon Pla, Steve Rogers, John Schisler, Nick Serratore and Nancy Richards West.
This year’s exhibition is highly diverse, with works done in oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolor, as well as uncommon techniques like alcohol ink wash and hand-cast resin sculpture. The works encompass a wide variety of subject matter from animals and landscapes to still lifes and contemporary abstracts.
Tony Boyd-Heron, gallery co-owner, said, “Each year, it’s very exciting to get the show up on the walls. It’s always sort of a shock walking into a room lined with so many paintings.”
Small Jewels will be on display through Saturday, Dec. 31.
Works from the show can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and are available for presale.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Village Shoppes at the Beacon Inn, 520 East Savannah Road, Lewes.
