Cape sophomore Faith Re lit up the scoreboard with 20 points, including four three-pointers, to lead the Vikings to a 59-27 road win over Caesar Rodney.
“I thought we played really hard,” said Re. “We ran and executed fantastically, and we got great shots off of the way we executed. We played really well and it is a good win.”
Four players scored in double figures for the Vikings. They came out scorching hot from the floor, scoring 31 points in the first half before adding 28 in the second half to move to 3-2 on the season. The Riders are 1-3.
Junior point guard Mya Maull tallied 14 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Freshman Amalia Fruchtman recorded 10 points, four blocks and three assists.
“My teammates have made my adjustment from middle school to varsity very easy this season,” Fruchtman said. “This team makes it a fun and friendly environment, and I’m getting more comfortable and confident with my play. I’m having a lot of fun on the court.”
Senior Ja’Onna Lee dropped 12 points, three assists and three steals. And despite her 5-foot height, she led both teams on the boards with 10 rebounds.
“I’m enjoying playing with this team,” said Lee. “The younger girls are really improving each day, and I think some of the teams are underestimating us. The girls coming off the bench are doing great too. We are going to surprise some teams this year.”
Grace Totten and Hayden Hudson grabbed six and four rebounds, respectively, while Hudson made two blocks.
“It was nice that Amalia had a breakout game,” said Cape coach Pat Woods. “Our message to them was, from start to finish, lock in for the whole game. Ja’Onna was a beast out there grabbing 10 rebounds. It was a big Northern Division win.”
Senior Syllest Barrett led the Riders with 11 points.
