Delaware Community Foundation awards capital grants
The Delaware Community Foundation recently awarded $254,823 in capital grants to 22 organizations providing meals, mental health services and other essential services around the state.
Grants are underwritten by the Delaware Forever Fund and other funds supporting capital needs of nonprofits throughout Delaware.
This year’s recipients that serve Sussex County are: CHEER, $19,726 to purchase new security cameras; Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding, $10,000 to build and repair fencing, shelters and a well; Teach a Person to Fish Society, $10,000 to upgrade its kitchen; Rosa Health Center, $10,000 to build a new office for a new physician; Delaware Public Media, $10,000 to install new equipment to increase its signal strength and reach; Sussex County Crisis House, $17,000 to install new vinyl siding; Lewes Historical Society, $7,500 to create and install signs; and Primeros Pasos Inc., $7,600 to install equipment for two tricycle pedal tracks for preschool children.
Since 1989, the Delaware Community Foundation has distributed more than $7 million in capital grants. These are primarily funded by the Delaware Forever Fund, which consists of gifts made to the DCF for discretionary grant-making.
“Nonprofit organizations should not have to face the issue of being unable to serve their community because they must spend funds on infrastructure issues,” said Stuart Comstock-Gay, DCF president and CEO. “These capital grants allow organizations to grow their impact and make a lasting difference for all Delawareans.”
