DIAA basketball brackets released

Cape girls earn third seed, first-round bye

The Cape girls’ basketball team earned the third seed in the DIAA Girls’ Basketball Tournament and will play the winner of No. 14 Saint Mark’s and No. 19 Dover at 7 p.m., Friday, March 3, location TBA. If victorious, Cape could host the quarterfinal game Monday, March 6. Semifinals and finals are played at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. 

Sanford earned the top overall seed, while Ursuline is No. 2. Delmarva Christian is ranked 12th and will host the No. 21 Middletown Cavaliers at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 1. If victorious, the Royals will play at No. 5 Caravel March 3. 

In the boys’ bracket, No. 24 Cape will travel to No. 9 Caravel for an opening-round game at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28. If the Vikings win, they’ll play at No. 8 Sanford Thursday, March 2. Like the girls’ tournament, the semifinals and finals will be played at the Bob Carpenter Center. 

In the unified basketball playoffs, Cape hosts Seaford in the first round at 3:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27. The winner plays at No. 2 Indian River at 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 3. The championship will be held Friday, March 10, at the Bob Carpenter Center.
