Dan attended Huntington High School in Huntington, Pa. He started learning the plumbing and heating trade at an early age and went on to pursue his journeyman and Master Plumber licenses. Shortly after that, he started his own business and soon after, his brother, Pederick (Skip), became a partner and they formed Abbott Brothers Plumbing and Heating Inc., a small, but successful business for 29 years. Skip predeceased his brother in 1985, and Dan retired in 1989. He was a proud Freemason of Millington Lodge 166 in Catonsville, Md., since the 1960s. He was a lifetime member of the Ickesburg and Broadtop Sportsman Associations in Pennsylvania, as well as the Coal Miners Society for many years. For over 25 years, he was an honorary member of BOMA (Builders Owners Managers Association) of Baltimore and a visionary when it came to real estate.
Dan never turned down an adventure; he had many interests and hobbies. Dan enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as carving birds and ducks. In 1978, he was awarded the Pilots Solo Flight Achievement Award, and at the age of 64, Dan obtained his scuba diving certification. He was loving and devoted to his family and friends; he will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his son Daniel Maurice Abbott Jr.; his grandson Daniel Eldridge Cates; and his siblings Joyce C. (Abbott) Houck and Pederick (Skip) J. Abbott. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Amelia (Hack) Abbott; his daughters, Deborah Lou (Abbott) Coursey and son-in-law Billy Ray Coursey, and Lynn Abbott Beebe; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
