Flamingo flock ready to resume fundraising for Girl Scouts
The Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Older Girl International Travel Group’s pink flamingo flock is ready to come out of hibernation and start fundraising.
For more than 10 summers, Girl Scouts have raised money by “flocking” lawns with pink flamingos to help fund their trips, including travel to London, Paris, Switzerland, Florence, Venice and Rome.
This summer, the group will be traveling to Italy and Greece.
"We really appreciate how the community has embraced our girls and their efforts to raise money to travel," said Janet Maher, travel group leader. "Over the past 10 years, the girls have earned over $12,000 by ‘flocking your friends.’”
The pretty pink beauties are ready to accept flocking requests for dates beginning Monday, May 15, and running through Labor Day weekend. For a $50 donation, anyone can order a surprise flocking of more than 70 flamingos delivered to a friend’s front yard where they will roost for about 24 hours before moving on to the next destination.
Holiday flockings for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day are $100. The price doubles, but so does the time period in which the flock stays. "Because of the increased time it takes us to deliver and retrieve the flock in holiday traffic, we double the price, but you get to enjoy the birds’ company for a longer period of time," said Anna Moshier, group co-leader. "The girls really love doing this every summer. They are already earning money for our 2025 adventure to Australia."
