Young anglers come out for Andy & Opie Fishing Tournament

June 12, 2023

Families from around the Cape Region dropped bait in the water at Milton Memorial Park June 3 for a day of outdoor fun and bonding as part of the ninth edition of the annual Andy & Opie Fishing Tournament.

Presented by Techno Goober, the tournament is less a competitive event and more a chance to get families together outdoors. The banks of the Broadkill River were lined with families casting lines, hoping to snag a bite from a fish. Anglers can bring their own bait and tackle, but rod, reel and bait were also provided for free to those who did not have them.

The winning fish this year was a 27-inch carp caught by Andrew Connors. Awards were handed out for both boys and girls, separated into age groups. Catfish, carp and eels were the most common fish caught.
