Sailing season in full swing at Lewes Yacht Club

Three days of racing take place each week during the summer season

With Beer Can Fleet racing (keel boats) already underway each Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening, one-design (smaller boats) races started the Saturday series June 24, as another season of sailing gets underway at Lewes Yacht Club. One-design races are open to members and nonmembers. Sailboats can be reserved by sending an email to sailingschool@lewesyc.com.

Top finishers in the July 2 one-design races were: Sunfish sailors David Miller, two firsts; Connie Miller, one first and two seconds; Christina Lindemer, two thirds; Jenny Hopkins, winner of the season-starting race June 24, and one second; and Sav and Scott Gaston, one third.

In the Mobjack division, skipper Sarah Lester and Tony Ingram won all three races, with skipper Paynt Ingram (Tony’s father) and Margaret Ingram (Tony’s wife) finishing in second.

In July 2 Beer Can Fleet racing, the top finishers were Iris, Balance, Delilah, Legacy and Mystery. Top finishers in other races: June 28 - Iris, Mystery, Balance, Mahal, Delilah; June 25 - Balance, Mystery, Iris, Delilah; June 18 - Legacy, Balance, Going Green; June 14 - Balance, Delilah, Mahal, Iris; June 11 - Balance, Iris, Mystery, Delilah.

LYC will host the Lewes Cup Saturday, July 8, and the Sunfish Women’s North American Championship Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 and 20.
