Registration for The Starboard’s 12th annual Dewey Goes Pink event is officially open.
Dewey Goes Pink and the Gugie Run, the annual race and fundraiser to benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, will take place Saturday, Oct. 7, when those touched by breast cancer can come together in remembrance of lives lost, and to support those still fighting against breast cancer.
Last year, the event surpassed the million-dollar mark for funds raised over the years, and this year, it will likely exceed a cumulative total of $1.4 million, organizers hope. Part of what makes this event so unique is that the money raised stays in Delaware and goes toward the coalition’s services in Sussex County.
This is a very personal event for founders Steve “Monty” Montgomery, owner of The Starboard, and Adam Howard, owner of The Body Shop, whose mothers both battled breast cancer.
“After yet another incredible sell-out event of nearly 4,000 people in 2022, we are looking forward to the magic of Dewey Goes Pink in 2023,” Montgomery said. “New this year, we have taken our silent auction online, so you do not have to be in town to join in on the fun. We continue to try and adapt ways to make this event terrific knowing there will be a lot of folks onsite and not everyone can join us in person.”
Over the years, this event has grown to accommodate a variety of circumstances, and this year’s addition of an online auction will allow people to participate and donate no matter where they are located, expanding the reach of the fundraising and inclusion. The event is anticipated to sell out quickly, as it has in years past, with a limit of 4,000 race/walk entries available.
