Paul William Johnson, retired Navy captain
Paul William Johnson, Capt. MSC USN, (Ret.), 93, of Lewes, passed away Monday, Aug 28, 2023. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., Sept. 5, 1929, son of the late Luther and Erma (Dawson) Johnson.
Paul spent his childhood in Huntington, W.Va., and in Parkville and Catonsville, Md. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and after a 43-year career retired in 1991. In 1995, he moved to Lewes.
Paul enjoyed spending time with family and friends, had a love of cooking a variety of cuisines, tinkering with electronics, and over the years enjoyed crafting a number of wooden projects in his workshop.
He will be greatly missed by his family, and they are thankful for his loving presence in their lives.
Paul is survived by the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Suzan Johnson; his children, David Johnson (Wendy), Judi Holmgren (Thomas), Kay McLaughlin and Lisa Strong (Dennis); and his grandchildren, Aaliyah Takahara, Shannon Strong, William McLaughlin and Daniel McLaughlin.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be privately held by his family.
