Rehoboth parish to go all in for jazz fest weekend Oct. 14-15

All Saints' Church and St. George's Chapel are going all in for jazz festival weekend.

Festivities begin with the Moravian University Jazz Band performance at 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, in a specially erected performance tent at 22 Olive Ave. (near First Street) in downtown Rehoboth Beach. There is no charge to attend, and a freewill offering will be taken. Those attending are asked to bring a folding lawn or beach chair for seating. The concert, under the direction of Dr. Neil Wetzel, chair of music at Moravian, will include pop and standard jazz and swing music. 

In the event of inclement weather, the Moravian University Jazz Band performance will be relocated to be held inside the parish hall adjacent to the church at 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

At 5 p.m., All Saints' Church will hold its popular jazz mass in the church sanctuary. Seating is limited, so early arrival is recommended.

"The mass includes several genres of music: gospel, jazz, swing, contemporary, to name a few,” said Jon Rania, parish music director. "Our adult choir has been preparing for months for this special event." Guest musicians include vocalist Jackie Johnson, a Cape Henlopen High School graduate studying vocal performance at Temple University in Philadelphia. Also performing at the mass will be the Moravian University Jazz Ensemble. There is no charge to attend, and a freewill offering will be taken.

The jazz mass will be repeated at 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 15,  at St. George's Chapel, 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson. Following the mass, the Moravian Jazz Band will play a special jam session during fellowship in the parish hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. All locations for these events are handicapped-accessible.
