City of Rehoboth Beach officially kicks off holiday season Nov. 24

Community tree-lighting event, sing-along a cherished tradition
November 18, 2023

The City of Rehoboth Beach will officially welcome the holiday season and host its annual tree-lighting event Friday, Nov. 24, at the Rehoboth Avenue Bandstand. The event officially begins at 6:30 p.m. with with a troupe from Clear Space Theatre leading a sing-along, but holiday music provided by the Cape Brass Ensemble will start at 6 p.m. The community tree will be lit at 7 p.m.

This year’s community tree was once again donated by Dean and Debbie Smith. The Rehoboth-area couple is the first donor to provide a holiday tree for the city in back-to-back years. This year’s tree originally was an approximately 40-foot green giant arborvitae, but after its trunk suddenly snapped Nov. 15 while being lifted off the trailer that brought it to the bandstand, the holiday tree now stands about 25 feet tall.

Providing assistance to the city in removing, transporting and installing the tree this year were elves extraordinaire Harry Caswell Inc., George W. Plummer & Son Inc., and Delmarva Power.

The tree-lighting event is free and open to the public.
