Dean Allen Cannon Sr., veteran, Verizon retiree

Dean Allen Cannon Sr., 55, of Seaford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023. Dean was born at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif., July 6, 1968, son of Dorothy (Donovan) Cannon and the late James Cannon Sr.

Dean grew up in Georgetown, graduating from Sussex Central High School Class of 1986. His very first job was working at Nicola Pizza in Rehoboth Beach. He proudly served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Spiegel Grove LSD-32, receiving an honorable discharge August 1987. Dean then worked for such companies as Asplundh Tree Expert Co., was a Sussex County 911 dispatcher from 1993-97, then joined Verizon as a splicing tech in 1997, retiring in December 2020 after many dedicated years.

Dean was a former member of the Lewes Fire Department, Indian River Vol. Fire Company, as well as Mid-Sussex Rescue squad. He was a member of CWA Local 13101, serving as shop steward. In his spare time, Dean could be found on the sports fields coaching Pop Warner football, Nanticoke Little League, and Woodbridge Little League. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins fan.

In addition to his father, Dean was preceded in death by his son, Dylan Cannon; and his father-in-law, Roger Foxwell. He is survived by his wife, Susan Cox-Cannon; his children: Amanda Milham (Robert) of Callender, Iowa, Dean "DJ" Cannon Jr. (Lisa) of Annapolis, Md., and Natalie Cole (Richie), Derek Cannon and Dalton Cannon, all of Seaford; his grandchildren, Caden, Adalynn, and Caelynn and Arlan, all of Callender, Laurelin of Annapolis, and Liliana, Sofia and Miles of Seaford; his godson, Kingston Mullen of Laurel; his brothers, James Cannon Jr. (Karen) of Millsboro, and Daryl Cannon of Jacksonville, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Patricia Ann Foxwell of Salisbury, Md.; and several nieces, nephews, and many amazing friends who were like family to him.

An interment with military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, Bridgeville.
