Driver dies after car catches fire following three-car crash in Georgetown
One person died Feb. 3 following a fiery three-vehicle crash on Route 113 near Georgetown.
The crash happened at 10:12 p.m. when police said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Wilson Road, approaching the Route 113 intersection. At the same time, police said a Chevrolet HHR was traveling northbound in the right lane of Route 113 approaching Wilson Road, and a Dodge Ram was traveling in the left lane, a short distance behind the HHR. The HHR and the Ram on Dupont Boulevard had the solid green light, police said, but the Silverado failed to remain stopped at the solid red light on Wilson Road and entered the intersection where it was struck on the left side by the front of the HHR, causing the Silverado to rotate. The Ram then collided with the Silverado, police said, and the HHR burst into flames.
The driver of the HHR was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.
The driver of the Ram, a Selbyville man, 33, was not injured. The driver and occupant of the Silverado fled the scene, police said.
Route 113 at the intersection of Wilson Road was closed for about three hours while the scene was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
