Cape boys' basketball defeats Knights, Ravens
The Cape boys’ basketball team added two wins to its record with victories over Sussex Central and Sussex Tech.
Three Vikings hit for double figures in the 56-43 win over the Golden Knights Feb. 8. Jayden Dukes tallied 19 points, six rebounds and five steals. Jameson Tingle netted 16 points and seven rebounds. Geordan Downing dropped 10 points.
Senior Jack Schell dominated the boards with 11 rebounds while adding eight points and three assists.
The Vikings continued their quest for the postseason Feb. 10, avenging a Jan. 30 loss to the Ravens with a 75-51 win.
Tingle and Dukes scored 23 and 22 points, respectively. Tingle added 12 rebounds, six steals and three blocks. Dukes garnered nine rebounds.
“We came out and jumped out again early,” said Cape coach Steve Re. “They climbed back in it a little bit, but we kept executing and sharing the ball. We shared the ball really well. For the most part, we controlled the tempo and we made some shots. They made a run in the second half, but we were able to withstand it. Jack [Schell] was in foul trouble all night, so we had to manage that in the second half. We came out in the fourth quarter and came with pressure and just killed it. Jameson played great, Jayden played great. Kam [Trammell] was solid, Geordan was solid. We’re coming together at the right time. Our bench came in during the fourth quarter, and they just let it go.”
Downing hit for 14 points and five rebounds. Trammell continued his consistent play with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and four points. Hank Anderson came off the bench and hit two three-pointers in the last minute of play.
“We needed this win,” said Dukes. “We had to do our thing and this was the result. We are going to finish anytime we jump out strong like that.”
“I always pride myself on defense,” said Tingle. “If my offense isn’t falling, I know I can get it back on defense. So when both can click, that’s a really special feeling for me. I’m very happy about it. It’s always our goal to be up enough for the guys to come in off the bench. It always fun to have them come in. They haven’t missed too many when they come in.”
The Vikings (9-9) host Polytech (4-14) Tuesday, Feb. 13. Cape defeated the Panthers 61-47 Jan. 18.
