Oscar-nominated films opening Feb. 23 at Cinema Art Theater
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater, starting Friday, Feb. 23, will present two Oscar-nominated films, “The Zone of Interest” and “Perfect Days.”
“The Zone of Interest” is a powerful and heartbreaking drama that examines the ordinary existence of people who are complicit in horrific crimes. The commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden that are next to the camp.
“Perfect Days” tells the story of an elderly sanitation worker, Hirayama (Koji Yakusho), who seems utterly content with his simple life in Tokyo. Outside of his very structured everyday routine, he enjoys his passion for music and books, and he loves trees and takes photos of them. A series of unexpected encounters gradually reveals more of his past in this deeply moving and poetic reflection on finding beauty in the everyday world.
Admission is $9 for film society members, $11.50 for general public and $5 for students (student tickets only available at the box office).
