After falling 60-35 to Sanford School in the second round of the DIAA Boys’ Basketball Tournament, the Vikings’ roller-coaster season has come to an end.
Cape’s tournament run was a microcosm of the squad’s season, as a monumental win over rival Sussex Central was followed up by spotty shooting against a talented Sanford squad. In the second-round loss, the Vikings were 8-for-9 from the free-throw line but went just 5-for-18 from deep, leading to a 31% field goal percentage overall. Cape’s six assists were more than doubled by Sanford’s 13, and the Vikings lost the turnover battle by committing 15 and forcing just nine.
Senior Kam Trammell didn’t leave the floor on his way to eight points, three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Junior Jayden Dukes, and freshmen Geordan Downing and Jameson Tingle also played the full 32 minutes. Dukes led the team with 11 points, while Downing was second with 10 points. Tingle led his team with five boards, three steals, two blocks, and he tied Dukes for the team lead in assists with two. Sanford outrebounded Cape 32-14 in the contest.
