Royal Treat memorabilia sale and ice cream social set May 11
The Rehoboth Beach Museum will host an old-fashioned ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 11, on the back patio of the museum at 511 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
The event serves as a goodbye nod to the Royal Treat, a longtime institution formerly operating on Wilmington Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.
An exhibit on the second floor displays artifacts from the Royal Treat. For those who like to acquire memorabilia from old Rehoboth, tables and chairs from the original building will be available through a silent auction.
Starting in 1890 as ice cream became more available to the public, social events featuring the sweet treat were often hosted by churches or schools. It was a time for friends and families to gather and relax after a long week of work.
