Rehoboth Beach Museum will offer Elements in Art:Kids Classes in partnership with the Lewes Public Arts Committee’s Paul Daniel Kinetic Sculpture Exhibition at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes.
Museum educator Krystian Jamrozek will lead classes for kids ages 7-10 that combine science and art with a focus on the natural elements engaged in Daniel’s sculptures.
His wind-activated “M.T. Skirt No. 6,” for example, now floats in Blockhouse Pond at George H.P. Smith Park. Daniel said, “The sculpture flips in the wind, changes direction and flips into the wind again.”
Jamrozek’s anemometer program uses common household supplies to create sculptures that mimic the effect of wind and water on Daniel’s sculpture.
Museum Director Heidi Nasstrom Evans said she is thrilled about this partnership with the Lewes Public Arts Committee. Since beginning her tenure as director in November 2023, Nasstrom Evans has focused museum programming on building community through partnering opportunities with local organizations including the Lewes Public Arts Committee, Browseabout Books and CAMP Rehoboth.
Elements of Art Kids Classes begin with an interactive tour of the exhibit, followed by a project activity. Students will walk through the park to see the sculptures, journal their experiences and create their own small kinetic projects inspired by Daniel’s work. Sessions will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Thursdays, beginning June 20, and continuing weekly through July and August, at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes. There is no session July 4. Students can register for three programs including anemometer, wind vane and balloon rocket. Registration is $5 per student and is limited to 15 students per session. To register, go to rehobothbeachmuseum.org.
