May 28, 2024

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Col. David Hall Chapter in Lewes hosted its annual Memorial Day service May 27 to honor its namesake, as well as all service members who have perished in defense of the country.

The annual ceremony takes place at the gravesite of Lewes Revolutionary War hero Col. David Hall (1752-1817), who is buried in the Lewes Presbyterian Church cemetery. Hall led the Delaware Regiment in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, where he was wounded. He was a successful lawyer, politician and judge who served as Delaware governor from 1802-05.

Children, Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution members joined to lay wreaths at the gravesite, including the new local DAR Chapter Lewestown.

DAR Regent Patricia Hass said the local chapter volunteered 12,000 hours in 2023.
