Joan Marie Ilgenfritz, had fulfilling life
Joan Marie Ilgenfritz passed away peacefully Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Millsboro. She was born in New York, N.Y., Sept. 2, 1943. Joan lived a fulfilling and vibrant life, touching the hearts of many within her community and beyond.
An exemplar of service and leadership, Joan’s legacy includes her instrumental work with the Girl Scouts in New York, where she guided young women to become confident and capable leaders. Her expertise in grant writing greatly benefited the Nanticoke Indians in the early days of their PowWow, ensuring the continuance of vital community programs. Joan also left an indelible mark on journalism as the admired head of a newspaper in Millsboro.
Joan is preceded in passing by her parents, Dwight Boyce and Margaret Boyce (Hromcho); her husband, John Ilgenfritz; and her sister-in-law, Pamela Boyce. She leaves behind a cherished family who will fondly remember her, one brother, Robert Boyce of Georgia; one sister, Karen Ashley of Delaware; her three nieces, Jennifer Burnett (Shawn) of Georgia, Erika Carlson of Connecticut, and Ashley Riggs (David) of Georgia; one stepdaughter, Karen Stamper of Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Bernie and Carolann; six grand-nieces and -nephews; as well as two great friends, Terry Boner and Bob Trupkiewicz. Joan's grace and spirit will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, at Mary Mother of Peace, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro. Friends and family may visit starting at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be private
