Each year, Children’s Beach House honors the birthday of Lydia Chichester du Pont with a founder’s day celebration.
Invited guests this year included community leaders Sen. Russ Huxtable, D-Lewes, and Rep. Stell Parker Selby, D-Milton, who shared lunch with trustees, staff and campers enjoying their third week of activities.
CBH alumnus Jaden Adkins of Dover spoke to the group about the impact Children’s Beach House had on his life and the lessons he carried with him as he pursued his passion to earn a master’s degree in music performance from Penn State University. “Look around the room,” Adkins said. “One of the people in this room could change your life one day. You never know who it’s going to be.”
The day was also a celebration of the contributions so many have made over the organization’s 88-year history. In that spirit of gratitude, CBH Board of Trustees President Tom Sheridan announced the 2024 Lydia Award, given in recognition of significant support to the mission of Children’s Beach House. This year’s honoree was D. Preston Lee Jr., who has chaired the board of trustees property committee for 20 years and overseen massive improvements to CBH’s bayfront facility. Lee has also served the community through his volunteer work with the Lewes Board of Public Works and the Lewes Historical Society.
