For the first time since announcing he won’t seek re-election, President Joe Biden is expected to be in town this weekend.

According to a Daily Guidance and Press Schedule issued Aug. 7 by the White House, the president and first lady Jill Biden are expected to arrive at their North Shores home around 9:10 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8. The guidance says that prior to coming to the beach, the Bidens will be in Wilmington to meet with campaign staff.

The guidance doesn’t say how long Biden will be in town; however, the Federal Aviation Administration has issued a temporary flight restriction notice for the air space near his home that goes into effect at 9:30 p.m., Aug. 8, and ends at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 12.

This is what can typically be expected in terms of security measures for when the president is in town:

• Gordons Pond users could see restrictions. The park’s parking lot is just around the corner from Biden’s home and is used as a landing site for Marine One.

• If Biden decides to drive, motorists on Route 1 should be prepared for delays. By road, there’s really only one way to his house – southbound on Route 1, then through Rehoboth Beach. As the presidential motorcade makes its way south, police and state personnel sit at all intersections blocking traffic.

• The FAA’s temporary flight restrictions limit use of the airspace – including drones – from Dover south to Ocean City, Md., and west to the Maryland border.

• The Coast Guard establishes security zones in the ocean area immediately in front of North Shores beach and in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

The Bidens haven’t been seen out in public as much this summer as they have in years past, but if they do venture out, send photos to cflood@capegazette.com.
