Nearly 5,000 people attended the 2024 Dewey Goes Pink at The Starboard Oct. 5, as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event brings together families, friends and fundraising teams to raise awareness and support for breast cancer services and research.
“Dewey Goes Pink’s 13th Annual was spectacular,” said The Starboard owner and Dewey Goes Pink co-founder Steve “Monty” Montgomery. “Close to 5000 participants all came to walk, run, eat, drink, hug, cry, cheer, and listen to some great live bands outside The Starboard as one of Dewey Beach’s marquee off season events. All while raising what looks to break all previous years records coming in over $350,000 this year for our local Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. This year puts this event very close to the $2 million mark in total raised since its inception 13 years back.”
All the funds raised by Dewey Goes Pink go to support the Sussex County Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission to empower the community by raising awareness of breast health issues, increasing access to care through outreach, education and support services, and to facilitating early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
“It’s pure joy to host an event that means so much to so many, each for their own respective reason, loved ones, or friends,” Montgomery said. “I could not be more appreciative and proud of our own Starboard and Bethany Blues staffs for how hard they worked to make this all happen so flawlessly, you can’t imagine preparing a barbecue feast for 5,000 people. Perfect weather helped along with the incredible generosity of all the participants, volunteers, and everyone involved to make for one beautiful pink day in what we selfishly think is the best beach town around, Dewey Beach.”
