Sussex County Council District 3 candidate forum set Oct. 29

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County will host a forum featuring candidates for County Council District 3 from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Rehoboth Beach Public Library, 226 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. 

Republican incumbent Mark Schaeffer and Democrat Jane Gruenebaum will field questions from the audience. Michele Forzley will be the moderator.

Sussex County Council District 3 covers Delaware Bay and Atlantic coast communities, including Broadkill Beach, Dewey Beach, Henlopen Acres, Lewes, Long Neck, Prime Hook Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Slaughter Beach. 

Voters can find their Sussex County Council District numbers on their Delaware polling place card or by entering their address at vote411.org, the League of Women Voters’ online guide.

Legislative authority and responsibilities of the county council include establishing policies for the health, safety and welfare of county residents, adopting an annual budget for county government operations, and enacting plans for county growth, development and employment.

Attendees are encouraged to bring written questions, legibly printed on a 3-by-5-inch card. Note cards and pencils for posing questions will also be available at the door and from monitors in the aisles throughout the program. ASL Connections will provide sign language interpretation.

The forum will also be livestreamed at youtube.com@leagueofwomenvoterssussex2638.

To maintain a neutral atmosphere at the forum, the league prohibits electioneering in the room, including wearing clothing, hats, buttons or other items promoting either candidate.

With the aim to encourage active and informed participation in government and to increase understanding of public policy issues, the league is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office.
