James David Davis, loving husband, father

James David Davis, 84, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Delaware Hospice Center.

He was born March 3, 1940, in Georgetown, to his parents Arthur Pierce and Anna Mae (Rash) Davis. 

James ranked sergeant in the National Guard and trained in Fort Knox, Ky. He farmed the home farm. James was employed by Arrow Safety Device Co. for seven years and Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company for 40 years. He enjoyed racing and raced a 1938 Ford in the Limited Sportsman Class at Georgetown Speedway from 1961-63, where he was track champion in 1963. James enjoyed horseback riding and taking a stroll in his horse and buggy, and he also loved his trips to Lancaster, Pa. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy King; brothers, Norman Davis, Paul Davis, Johnny Davis and Arthur Davis Jr. 

James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Ellen (Morris) Davis; children, Lori Lewis (Shawn) and Mark Davis (Leona); grandchildren, Casey Lewis (Emily) and Mark James Davis Jr.; great-grandchildren, Owen Lewis, Cali Lewis and Wrenley Lewis; brothers, William Thomas Davis (Carol) and Robert Davis (Grace).

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 24, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at noon. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, 14873 Baker Mill Road, Seaford, DE 19973; or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
