“Whoever shares his bread with the poor will be blessed.” - Proverbs 22:9.
Unique Minds Changing Lives Inc. held its Thanksgiving community feeding Nov. 23, when nearly 325 families were blessed with a hot meal and boxes of food to celebrate Thanksgiving and defray the cost of feeding their family.
Three different drives were held at the event. Hot Thanksgiving platters were given to the community along with Thanksgiving food boxes and a major food distribution that is given every fourth Saturday at Unique Minds Changing Lives.
The group, which is entirely made up of volunteers, writes grants and gets donations from businesses in the area. Even private citizens in the community donate food to the group.
“Some individuals just ask what we need and they will donate it,” said Executive Director Kristy Gibbs. “We had a lot of community members donate turkeys to us this year. A lot of churches will donate food to us, and we also partner up with the Food Bank of Delaware.”
“It was so awesome today,” said founder and CEO Helena Gibbs. “I was really, really proud to see so many people that came out to assist us in the distribution this time of year.”
“We had 27 volunteers come out to help us today,” said Kristy Gibbs. “Without the volunteers and different people donating food, we could not have made it work.”
