Gallo Gives Foundation presents community donations

November 28, 2024

As part of its continual effort to make a difference in the communities in which its associates live and serve, the Gallo Gives Foundation recently awarded donations to support BeLoved Asheville, Rotary Can-Do Playground, Community Resource Center, Lewes Fourth Street Preserve, Rehoboth Beach Film Society and Revival House Theater. In all, $9,500 was donated during this giving campaign.

BeLoved Asheville received a $2,000 award. In response to Hurricane Helene, the nonprofit organization is dedicating every resource to those most affected by the disaster. The immediate focus has been on critical necessities like food, water and healthcare for survival and stability.  As winter looms, helpers are securing warm, safe housing for the displaced. Looking further ahead, recovery from the vast destruction will be a large-scale investment over several years. Learn more at belovedasheville.com

The Rotary Can-Do Playground was the recipient of a $2,000 grant. Can-Do Playgrounds in Delaware started as a movement organized by a group of caring Rotarians in the early 2000s to build a dedicated playground and activity area for special needs kids. Playgrounds have been built in Wilmington and in Milford. Delaware’s Sussex County Rotary clubs are now working to provide this important resource to their quickly developing region. Seven clubs from throughout Sussex County have come together for a new nonprofit organization, Sussex Rotary Can-Do Playground Inc., a registered 501(c)3 corporation. The group is working with partners to conceive, develop, fund and open Delaware’s latest Can-Do facility at the new Stephen P. Hudson Park on a site donated by The Sussex County Land Trust. The Lewes Fourth Street Preserve received $2,000 to support the Open Space Alliance campaign to purchase and conserve 30 acres of forested land located on either side of Fourth Street in Lewes. This historically rich parcel plays a vital role in preserving Lewes’ remaining wildlife and significantly contributes to improved air quality and reduced carbon emissions. The site also plays a role in water management, acting as a vital component in safeguarding against flooding. Open space in and around Lewes is being diminished every day. The loss of trees, green habitats, view corridors and natural resources is startling. For more information, visit osalewes.org.

The Community Resource Center, based in Rehoboth Beach, was provided with $1,500. The CRC is a volunteer-driven organization that was created in 2011 to assist low-income individuals and families in times of need. It offers a centralized location where local residents can come when they are facing a crisis. More than 70 staff and volunteers work together to assess the needs of individuals and families, identify and coordinate the use of community resources, provide financial assistance based on need, and create partnerships in the community to support individuals and families during uncertain times. The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization operating in Delaware, was awarded $1,000. Founded in August 1998, the society is home to the award-winning Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. In 2016, the RBFS opened the Cinema Art Theater near Lewes, and the society continues to provide a variety of film experiences on its two screens, including art house programs year-round and a roster of first-run indies, documentaries, features and international films along with a diverse lineup of mini-film festivals each spring. Finally, $1,000 was donated to The Revival House Theater in Milton, which offers a platform to celebrate the experience of going to the movies, presenting programs that are unique, entertaining and fun. The organization operates out of the Milton Theatre. Learn more at therevivalhousetheater.com.
