Sussex County names Oana Sofronie Employee of the Year

December 13, 2024

Sussex County has named Oana Sofronie of Millsboro its 2024 Employee of the Year.

This year’s honoree was announced Dec. 6 during the annual Mildred King Luncheon, held each year to celebrate the county’s approximately 550 employees. Sofronie was selected from a field of 17 employees, all of whom were either quarterly winners or recipients of honorable mentions during the past year.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this award. It’s so unexpected,” said Sofronie, a geographic information systems technician in the county’s geographic information office. She was lauded for her attention to detail and willingness to take the lead in helping the county achieve a better-than-97% match rate for its 911 addressing-telephone number database. “I’m very proud to work for Sussex County, and proud to work with such a supportive team. This award is for all of us.”

County Administrator Todd F. Lawson commended Sofronie for her dedicated service to county government, which began in August 2023. She serves as a role model to colleagues through her commitment and willingness to take on additional duties, and she maintains a pleasant and professional attitude, attributes that make her worthy of recognition by her peers, Lawson said.
