Doris A. Stauffer, loved the beach, skiing
Doris A. Stauffer, 100, of Milton and Broadkill Beach, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024.
Doris was born in Georgetown to Ollie H. and Mary L. Baker. She graduated from Georgetown High School Class of 1942. After graduation, she worked for over 33 years as a bookkeeper and office manager for the State of Delaware Department of Correction at Sussex Correctional Institution.
For 62 years, Doris thoroughly enjoyed the summers with friends and family at Broadkill Beach. She loved the beach and fishing on the Delaware Bay with her husband. She also enjoyed traveling, taking walks, bike riding, sewing and crocheting. She and her husband of 72 years loved snow skiing and skied well into their late 60s and early 70s.
In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Stauffer; and siblings, Dorothy B. Green, Helen Hurst, Ollie Baker Jr. and Charles Baker.
She is survived by her nieces, Judy Moore (Danny), Kelly Wilson (Steve), Kim Hudson (John), Karen Willey (Scott) and Kathy Farro (John); and nephews, Rocky Green (LeeAnn), Brad Baker (Amparo) and David Baker.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at noon. Burial will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
