January 13, 2025

Robert “Woody” Long passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, with his family by his side.

Woody was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. With his wife Lynda, Woody started Sussex Bullies, breeding and showing English bulldogs, starting with his prized Meathead. Later in life, Woody pursued standardbred horse racing, forming Fleetwoody Stables. As a teacher and coach, Woody was a mentor to many students, touching lives with his support and guidance. Many of his students became cherished friends later in life. One of his proudest SC moments was winning the 1989 baseball championship, and his boys always remained special to him. Woody had a special ability to make others laugh with his stories, high jinxes, and playful spirit. His passions included English bulldogs, sports, golf, travel, and finding the very best restaurants, no matter where he went.
