Paul J. Walker III, veteran, SCI retiree

Paul J. Walker III passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford. He was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Milford. Paul dedicated 30 years of his life to serving as a correctional officer, retiring as a captain at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown.

A veteran, Paul served in the Army during the Vietnam War from March 1968 to April 1969. He was notably involved in his local community, participating in Pop Warner football, which showcased his commitment to nurturing youth sports. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and gardening, and he was a passionate supporter of Jeff Gordon and his favorite sports teams, the Baltimore Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles.

Paul is survived by his son, Paul J. Walker IV and wife Andrea; his son, Samuel J. Walker and wife Jessica; his brother, Stanley Walker and wife Connie; his sister, Lynette Whealton and husband Bill; and his grandchildren, Ashton Walker, Shaila Bitler and husband Adam, Samuel H. Walker, and Sophia Walker. Paul also cherished his great-grandchildren, Jason Sharp and Colton Bitler, along with another great-grandchild who is yet to be born; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. Walker Jr. and C. Elizabeth (Scott) Walker; and his wife, Donna Rae (Wells) Walker.

Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his life. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Feb. 7, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, with a funeral service from noon to 1 p.m. Interment will follow the service at 2 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
