Dewey P&Z sets meeting Feb. 4 

The Dewey Beach Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing and meeting at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.

The public hearing will focus on draft ordinances regarding freeboard allowances and nonresidential dry flood-proofing requirements. 

The commission will then discuss and possibly vote on recommendations to town council regarding these ordinances.

Dining event benefits Village Volunteers Feb. 5

The public is invited to support the Village Volunteers organization by attending a special Dine & Donate event starting at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Fish On in Lewes. Guests can enjoy a delicious meal while helping a great cause, as a portion of the evening’s proceeds will go directly to the Village Volunteers.

The organization is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to helping older adults in Milton, Lewes and Rehoboth Beach age in place by providing them with a wide range of supportive services including transportation, help with errands, social engagement and other day-to-day assistance. Lewes architectural panel to meet Feb. 6

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Rollins Center.

The panel will consider applications for changes at four properties in the historic district: 223 Second St., 503 Kings Hwy., 130 Franklin St. and 103 E. Third St.

Milton candidates forum set Feb. 15 

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County DE will host a candidates forum for the Milton municipal elections from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at Milton Public Library, 121 Union St., Milton. The elections will be held Saturday, March 1.  

Candidates running for the office of mayor are incumbent Mayor John Collier and Vice Mayor Lee Revis-Plank. 

The three candidates vying for two council seats are Tom Arkinson, Robert Gray and Alan Pongratz. Fern Goodhart will serve as moderator. 

Following brief opening statements, candidates will answer questions from the audience. 

The league encourages attendees to bring written questions legibly printed on a three-by-five card. 

Note cards and pencils for posing questions will also be available at the door and from monitors in the aisles during the forum. Milton residents can submit questions beforehand by going to sussexlwv.org and clicking on the forum question submission link. 

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office. Its aim is to encourage active and informed participation in government and to increase understanding of public policy issues.

DAR seeks Selbyville Hometown Heroes nominations

The Maj. Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is expanding its Hometown Heroes Banner Program to Selbyville.

The living tribute recognizes and honors military personnel who have or have had a connection to Selbyville, and who are currently serving or veterans who have served in the United States armed forces. The Town of Selbyville will allow banners to be displayed on light poles lining Cemetery Road, Main Street and Church Street.

The banners will be 30-by-60-inches, printed on both sides, and will display the service person’s photograph, including their full name, military branch and era of service.

Applications are available at Selbyville Town Hall, 1 West Church St., Selbyville, and online at darmitchell.org. The committee will be working to review applications and hopes to have the banners on display in the coming months.
