Papa Grande’s takes the title at Crooked Hammock
February 5, 2025

Sixteen restaurants in Maryland and Sussex County took a shot at winning the 11th annual Best Wings on the Shore contest at Crooked Hammock Brewery near Lewes Feb. 2.

Hosted by radio station Ocean 98, this year’s title went to Papa Grande’s of Fenwick Island for its Danny Trejo wings, based on a Mexican-style wing recipe that was famously published by actor Danny Trejo. Papa Grande’s even had a framed photo of Trejo at its booth.

The contest drew 930 paying attendees and helped raise $18,000 for Ocean 98’s Cash for College program, which provides $5,000 each to randomly drawn applicants in Worcester, Wicomico and Sussex counties. Attendance at the event was up from the more than 700 who attended last year.

Ocean 98 Promotions Director Bill Fuhrer said of the attendance and response to the event, “This is unbelievable. We are very proud of this.”
