September 4, 2012

Walkers and bicylists signed in for the Lewes Steps Out For Fitness event on Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Lewes Beach public parking lot.  They then headed off for a walk on Cedar and Bay avenues and a bicycle ride to Cape Henlopen State Park.

The final event for the 2012 event will be sign-in and season-ending bon fire on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Lewes Beach public parking lot. The public is invited to attend the event and enjoy the bon fire on the beach as the earth celebrates the autumnal equinox and the first official day of fall. The final sign-in will begin at 5 p.m. and the bon fire will be lit at 6 p.m. There will also be bicycle safety exhibits, and demonstrations by Lewes Fire Department and Lewes Police Department.

Lewes Steps Out For Fitness is a healthy living program designed to get people outdoors and walking. It works in conjunction with the Sussex Outdoors initiative which will sponsor a free day at Cape Henlopen State Park on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. so families can get outside and have fun. That day at the park will include bicycle rides to show off the park's features and nature walks to explain native plant species in the park.
