Bark on the Boards benefits Georgetown SPCA shelter
Lucy and Beauford lead their owners, Joe and Andrea Baumann, up the boards during the Annual SPCA Bark on the Boards. The SPCA provides food, shelter, medical care and hope to more than 3,000 homeless, abused and neglected pets each year. A SPCA orphan eligible for adoption, Layla, takes volunteer LeAnn Angleton on a stroll up the boards. The walk is the largest fundraiser for the SPCA, which celebrates its 40 years of service in Sussex County.
SPCA volunteer Chris McGinnis walked with Stewie, a special canine who was born with a defect that prevents him from using his back legs. Stewie is waiting for a special owner or family who can give him his forever home.

Mr. Beefy, who went from shelter dog to official military dog, was adopted by the Coast Guard Station at Indian River Inlet where he has a caring family of over 30 service personnel. Mr. Beefy, along with (l-r) Larry Pennington, John Coleman, Randall Clawson and Dan Etter, were the grand marshals for the walk.

Hundreds of pet lovers and their canine companions took over the Rehoboth Boardwalk Oct. 6 at the Annual Bark on the Boards, the largest fundraiser for the Delaware SPCA's Georgetown shelter. The walk started at Lake Gerar Park and proceeded up the boards from north to south and back. Contests for Best Pet Trick, Most Precious Puppy, Best Kisser, Owner Look Alike and Best Tail Wagger took place after the leisurely stroll.
